Blink-182 / Weezer / Taking Back Sunday - Camden, NJ - 8.27.09

    <lj:music>Blink-182, Going Away to College</lj:music>

I left for Julie's around 1:45. It was really easy to get there! Yay! I got there a little before 4. Then we headed over to her parents' house to pick up Colleen and her friend, Sara (maybe with a h?). We waited there a few minutes til Collen got back from picking her up. I would say we left around 4:45. Before we even got to the Turnpike, there was an accident, so we got stuck in a bit of traffic before we planned on it. Speaking of, traffic was horrible where Julie expected; no news there. At one point, this guy in a Michael Vick Eagles jersey (really?) was running down the ramp and got into a red pick up that was pulled off to the side of the ramp. Nice.

We listened to a bunch of Blink from Colleen's ipod. I realized all their songs must be engraved into my brain because songs that I hadn't heard in years would come on, and I'd just start singing along. Sad or awesome? You decide...

We finally got all parked and such around 7 I think. Julie and I had two beers before we went in. I forgot what it was (started with an A), but it was yummy. We went in, got our shirts, and had a (not so) soft pretzel. Nicki and her friend, Mike, who went to high school with Julie, got there right after Weezer went on.

I can't even describe how amazing our seats were! No words! We decided we're never doing lawn seating again. Ever! This was surely one of the best uses of $83.50 ever!

Unfortunately, we missed almost all of Taking Back Sunday, but I'm okay with that. (I saw them in 2004 when I saw Blink in Hershey for the second time). They played their last song as we were walking in. Weezer was great! They had awesome matching white jump suits! My favourite was probably "Island in the Sun." Oh and they did "Should I Stay or Should I Go" by the Clash as their last song. That was pretty awesome. Really, everything they did was so fun and full of energy.

Blink was the best, of course I'm going to say that! I meant to write down the set list. Of course, I forgot (I'm often awesome like that). But I'm pretty sure I can get most of them--in no specific order save for the first song and the encore. heh Tom's quote for the evening, "I just made a horrible dick joke. It wasn't even funny, but it got better. During the last song, [Rock Show] 63% of you had an orgasm." Oh Tom, will you ever grow up? That's okay; I still love you! ♥

Anyway, here's the set list (pretty much and mostly out of order)
Dumpweed*
Josie
Going Away to College
What My Age Again
All the Small Things
Adam's Song
Man Overboard
Rock Show
First Date
Anthem Part II
Reckless Abandon
Stay Together for the Kids
Feeling This
Obvious
I Miss You
Stockholm Syndrome
Down
Always
Not Now
ENCORE*
crazy awesome drum solo by Travis (the platform lifted up, went almost vertical, and started spinning like a turn table--while he played the entire time!)
Carousel
Dammit

*actually in order
Sorry if it's lame because they're kinda in order by album, but give me a break. It was the easiest way for me to remember what they played. =P

I was pleasantly surprised they played Going Away to College. I used to be ridiculously obssessed with that song about 10 years ago when I was going away to college. I almost forgot how much I loved it. Kevin doesn't like it all all, of course. lol So, I'm a geek and follow (stalk? No, stalking's only for Tom lol...you all know I don't)them on Twitter. In April or May, Mark posted a list of songs they were practicing. M&M's was on the list! I was sooo excited, but, of course, they didn't play it at the show. Boooo That's okay. It was still an awesome show! ♥

We got to the car around 11:20 and got home (back to Julie's) around 2:15. As soon as we got to the car, I sent Kevin a text that said, "Tom's totally sad he's not having sex with me now." lol He thought that was hilarious. Sooo glad I took today off. I slept in til almost 10 and left shortly after that. It was such a great time!

Hey! Haven't updated in awhile! We went home on my birthday weekend to visit family/meet Jaden. It was a great time! Krissy was home too, and Kevin and I stayed til late afternoon on Monday. Saturday we went to Luigi's then visited Becca, Gary, Shane, and the twins at their new house in Greensburg. It was fun. I can't believe the twins are 14 months old already, and Shane is so cute, too. Sunday we had dinner at Mom and Mike's, and Pap drove down to visit, too. That was when we finally got to meet Jaden. He is sooo adorable! Poor Dani found out she had Shingles, so she couldn't come over. (She's fine now and was even able to make up all of her finals). Monday we had lunch at Gram and Pap's--Alysha and Jaden came, too. After that, we went to visit Nan for awhile, then went home to make Hamburger Stew for dinner. Yum. After dinner, we headed back to Lancaster around 5:30 or so. It was an awesome long weekend!

Since then, not too much has been going on. I've been doing tons of editing--always keeping me very busy. Last Friday night, we went to a friend's birthday party. I got ridiculously drunk and woke up with a huge bruise on my arm...we have no idea what happened. (We're talking worse than the famous "What are you doing?" "Getting the kool-aid off my arm..." "That's not kool-aid; it's a bruise..." bruise from so many years ago. hahaha) Good times.

Then Saturday morning, I went over to Ben and Cat's to help them with house-cleaning up stuff. We were supposed to get rid of all the stuff in their dumpster, but everyone except me (including the people who were picking up the stuff) canceled on them! Wow, I am such an awesome friend! So, while Cat and I got all the glue off the walls from that crappy wood paneling, Ben removed insulation from the attic to use in the master bedroom. After we were done, Cat made awesome pizza--with a homemade pizza crust. It was sooo yummy! I hung out for a little while then went home. Oh, and Kevin was at home--sleeping most of the time. Boo! I got home, took a shower, and we headed to Linnea and Greg's for the Bad Movie Night! It was sooo much fun! Brandon was there and DT came over a little later. We started by watching Greg's first stand-up routine, which was actually really good! We also watched Trapped in a Closet, The Onion Movie, and Wizard of Gore. It was sooo much fun. We also had great pizza from the place right down the road and a delicious caesar salad. Can't wait til the next one!

Sunday we went to see Star Trek with Kevin parents! That's right, even his dad! It was great! Is it possible for me to love ZQ more? Apparently, it is! ♥

So, there's a nice-sized update! Enjoy! Now, back to editing!

I ♥ Tom so much!

In other news, my friend Doug, more lovingly refered to as my English major rock star, is having a art show in March in Boyerstown. Kevin, Steve, and I are going. I'm definitely getting a t-shirt he designed. But how cool would it be to have one of his pictures at our house. I could be like, "Yeah, my friend Doug did this." ! ♥ He's pretty much done being a rock star and has been doing art stuff since college (he was an English and Art major). Check out his art stuff! I'm so excited to see him! I haven't seen him since he was in Let Go Beautiful! ♥

Kevin and I got our new lizard yesterday! It is sooo tiny and adorable. We're going to name it Darwin if it's a boy and Lilly if it's a girl. The vet appointment will be soon. =) We're just calling it Baby or Little Lizard for now. heh Anyway, here are some pictures I took this morning before work. When I got home, the little one was already under the rock. I picked the rock up just to check in, and the lizard just opened it's eyes like, "What are you doing? I'm trying to sleep." lol This is the same kind of lizard as Dizzy. I can hardly imagine her being this small!

This is the cutest! But it's a bit blurry (I think because I took it through the glass/with the flash off/the lizard was moving) =)

This one's blurry too.
Vicki, Dan, Kevin, and I went to the Farm Show today. We had to park pretty far away and take a shuttle to the complex. It was so nice last year when Dan worked right across the street and we were able to park there. This year, we waited quite awhile in the cold weather. Of course, we we got finally got there, there was a huge crowd. First we got some food.Kevin and I shared an order of the mozzarella cubes then I had a awesome baked sweet potato. Yum! Next we went to see the bunnies! There were some cute one, but Cam is definitely the cutest bunny ever! Then we walked around the food annex(?)(it's the place where they have a bunch of displays and samples and food you can buy). We got some venison sticks, pumpernickel hempzels, and some maple sugar candy. Woohoo Kevin and I got the best honey ice cream right before we left (and Vicki got another milkshake). It was snowing huge flakes when we were waiting for the bus again. Of course, by the time we got back to the car. lol We had lots of fun!

Tomorrow we're going to pick up my laptop (finally), pick up a baby shower gift for Andrea at Target, and visit and have dinner at Kevin's parents'. Gooooo Steelers! ♥

New Year's Eve plans

Well, looks like it's the end of another year. Kevin and I are heading up to Tom and Corneila's to ring in the new year. We'll be the bearers of Blue Moon and that Woodchuck cider stuff that Kevin likes. By the way, he's a little heartbroken because they discontinued the Hardcore cider that he loved so much. Steve will probably be coming over til around 11. Poor Sabrina has to work tonight; she works nightshift as a nurse at a Mennonite Community. I hope she likes her new job because working nightshift must (at least kinda) suck. Steve wants to surprise her by showing up there at midnight. Isn't that sweet? (My question would be if he'd be allowed to "just show up there at midnight," but whatever). Yeah, so that's my plan. Hanging out and drinking Blue Moon. And sleeping in the next day, but for some reason, we always end up getting up early when we spend the night at Tom's.

Tomorrow we're going to do some shopping and drop by and visit Kevin's parents. Fun fun.

Linnea, have lots of fun at the TMBG concert tonight! Yes, we're jealous! ♥ We need to come visit you sometime soon!

EDIT: I just put together the tray of cookies and candy from Gram to take up to Tom's tonight. It looks very cute. I also put the fudge in a smaller container to take up. Whatever isn't finished tonight or tomorrow (when we stop by Kevin's parents') will be taken to work on Monday. The last thing we need is a bunch of sweet stuff around the house.

Hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas. We had a good time at Kevin's parents' house, starting with spending the night there on Christmas Eve (aka Mandy's birthday). We woke up at 7:30 and had a yummy breakfast of pancakes and sausage patties. Then we opened our presents. As usual, Kevin's parents spoiled us. I got 3 new shirts, gift cards to Borders and the mall, and new 4 GB flash drive with a cute little carrying case for editing things. We had steak and potatoes for dinner. Yum. It was a great day. When we got home, I wrapped the rest of the presents for my family, and we packed for home.

We'll actually be ready to leave as soon as Kevin gets home this evening! Yay. After driving 3 1/2 hours, we'll be at my parents' house and have Christmas pt 2. We'll open our gifts, and everyone will open their gifts from us. Krissy and I will probably be up all night talking. ♥ Saturday we're going to head up to Pap Z's around 12 to visit and have dinner at Luigi's! Yay! Then drop Krissy off at the airport in Pittsburgh around 3:30. I won't even get to see her for 24 hours. =( But there's always next time. =) Sunday we might go up to have dinner with Gram and Pap V.

Time to go read my book, Ines of My Soul by Isabel Allende! I need to finish reading this before I get a new manuscript to edit around Jan 1st!

Oh! Holy crap! How could I forget! My baby sister is engaged! Jet asked Alysha to marry him. On Christmas Eve? Or maybe it actually was on her birthday...she sent me the text message a little after midnight... This was after Jet wrecked his quad, and Alysha spent all of Christmas Eve in the hospital with him. At first, they went to Indiana Hospital but then they transfered him to Pittsburgh. Apparently, when it flipped, the handlebars smashed into his face. D: He broke his nose, the bone below one of his eyes, and a bone behind his eye. They were planning on doing surgery that night, but when I talked to Lysha yesterday, she said he's not having it til next week. I still don't fully understand that. Yeah, so. I think that's it.

"Do you remember Erick Melius...?"

I think I've mentioned this before, but it never fails. When Mom says, "Do you remember [insert name of someone I went to school with here]," something terrible has happened.

This actually happened when we were home for Thanksgiving, but I didn't really think much of it--except to say it was sad. When Mom was reading the paper Thanksgiving morning, she said, "Do you remember Erick Melius?" Of course, I did. We only went to elementary and high school together for 13 years. Unfortunately, he died, but the paper didn't say anything else.

*update*

Today I was talking to Dana, a friend from high school, mainly just to see how she's doing and get her new address. Then she asked if I heard about Erick. I told her I didn't know what happened. She told me then I googled. =( He got into a fight and died as a result of the injuries. At least the guy who beat he up is being tried for homicide...

News story from the Johnstown station

Even some Amish boys were involved..."Amish Hate Crime Incident..." Really? =/

Neutral Tones by Thomas Hardy and a winter book suggestion

    <lj:music>September Drive - Here Thinking</lj:music>

Neutral Tones

We stood by a pond that winter day,
And the sun was white, as though chidden of God,
And a few leaves lay on the starving sod,
—-They had fallen from an ash, and were gray.

Your eyes on me were as eyes that rove
Over tedious riddles solved years ago;
And some words played between us to and fro-—
On which lost the more by our love.

The smile on your mouth was the deadest thing
Alive enough to have strength to die;
And a grin of bitterness swept thereby
Like an ominous bird a-wing...

Since then, keen lessons that love deceives,
And wrings with wrong, have shaped to me
Your face, and the God-curst sun, and a tree,
And a pond edged with grayish leaves.

-- Thomas Hardy

Here's a poem for all of you. It's kinda wintry but definitely sad. Through the years, "The smile on your mouth was the deadest thing alive enough to have strength to die" is just something that really sticks out in my mind.

While I'm at it, here's a suggestion for winter reading: Winter's Tale by Mark Helprin. It's absolutely amazing. You'll love it. ♥
